Sickness Ploy: Marcos Come Back Route

The unholy partnership of Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago (MDS) and Sen. BongBong Marcos (BBM) running as President and Vice President echoed an uproar to an already circus atmosphere of the 2016 Presidential election. The campaign spectacle their partnership will bring would whet the appetite of the fun loving Filipinos for escapist entertainment. The more candidates run, the better. The people would get excited again at the prospect of a free show, free flow of goodies and free pocket monies. As election occurs every other three years, this fiesta like happenings is one of the most awaited events. The lunatic and the nuisance jump with joy as this is their season to shine for a five minutes fame.

The alliance of MDS and BBM, I believe, didn’t come out in a vacuum. As with all the other wannabes, their drawing boards have already been drawn long time ago. And depending on the evaluation of their “what if” scenarios, they will adjust it accordingly. Meanwhile, inch by inch with appropriate timing, they acted on the plan of action stated on their bullet points. Some telltale signs are obvious, the others insinuated in subtlety.

The wannabes, thru their spin doctors or PR specialists, exploit the popularity of Facebook. These spin doctors, as easy as a breeze, can get into Facebook in an attempt, either to boost the chances of their sponsor, or to throw muck of the likely opponents of their sponsor. Facebook, therefore, becomes the jumping board, the calibration and conditioning center, and the mock battleground. Facebook turns into an instant barometer, where the wannabes could measure the people’s pulse that would guide them in their political strategy.

Take the case of BBM. Many months ago, Facebook has been flooded with posts of images, videos of speeches, and display of BBM father’s accomplishments, extolling the message…”Mabuti pa noong panahon ng Martial Law”. The target of these spiels are the youth Facebook users, who has never been born yet during the rule of the senior Marcos. Migs Angeles, coordinator of First Time Voter under the program “Magparehistro, Bumoto, Tuloy ang Pagbabago” claimed that the youth vote comprised 60% of the voting population in the 2013 election. The thinking was, the oblique, deodorized version of the discredited Marcos name could subliminally get into the minds of these youth, and somehow, rubs its fragrance to BBM, the son. Therefore, BBM could have a shot.

Ever wondered why MDS is only attending selective Senate hearing?

When the issues involve would generate maximum media impact and exposure that MDS can display her wit, acumen, and virtuosity in the laws, she uses her sickness ploy only for her to get ahead of the other Senators to conduct her show. Her hordes of youth fans, fanatics of her “pickup lines” quotes, and those who bought her book “Stupid is Forever” stand in awe, admiring as always, her performance. However, on the Senate’s less important issues, MDS would be a no show. Her sickness is her excuse.

Now, notice this: Only few, if ever, would she decline an invitation for her to speak on school’s graduation rites. She love to cultivate the youth’s admiration because, like BBM, she knew the bulk of youth votes is ripe for the picking.

MDS and BBM partnership feed each other weaknesses and complement each other strengths.
MDS, as everybody know, is a good speaker, a total entertainer, and a crowd drawer. While MDS’s opponents would bring entertainer in their campaign sortie for people to come and stay until the candidates speak of their motherhood statements (mga boladas) MDS, is the entertainer herself. She keep her audience amused, enthralled, and a good apologist for Marcos Martial Law atrocities.

BBM’s role, meanwhile, would supply campaign logistics. For the free flow of goodies, giveaways, and pocket monies, BBM’s bottomless resources would be tapped. For a national presidential run, at least more than 10 billion pesos are needed. That’s peanut for the Marcos’s. Their massive wealth accumulated over the years while in power are more than enough.

I think the deal for their partnership anchored on MDS’s purported Stage 4 Lung Cancer. MDS when she announced it publicly, said, she’s taking the “magic pills”. And just in time for the election, she is cured. She is silent whether if it’s the “magic pills”, that caused the cure. The Marcos’s salivates to get back to Malacanang. And in case their partnership won, in midstream, MDS could change her mood and use her sickness ploy again and quit, which automatically make BBM, the President. That would be a tantalizing proposition.

Substantive might be the forces of the youth vote, but that wouldn’t be enough to clinch the plum position. MDS’s temperamental ballistic disposition is dangerous to the nation well-being. And the older Marcos’ Martial Law atrocities indelibly ingrained in the nation history.

The queen of pickup lines and effective intimidator can get people quiet, but deep in people’s minds, of course, they don’t want to cross with MDS, because they understand she is one of a loose nut, as Juan Ponce said, in one of his Senate Speeches.
